Disc two brings us the only two things an honest man ever needs: work and God.  Soul abounds in these tracks start to finish from back in the day when being Irish was to be oppressed.  Now it just means you’re expected to celebrate St. Paddy’s day like a baffoon and carry on a hearty tradition of freckle fetish. With the other tracks I feel like I’m listening to premixed tracks from Moby’s album Play.  Just that sort of southern, sweltering, heart-squeezing music. Like grit under your nails and baptismal water in your hair: righteous.

  1. huge thanks for posting the box!!! thought i’d never find it – but it was there all the time & i only recently stumbled upon it!!

unfortunately, track D-08 (Bob Gibson) is ‘corrupted’ & unextractable. tried different ways but no dice((

could you possibly – please – re-post here this track?
    – well, the post is old so i actually don’t expect it. however, if you’d still choose to kindly go down & do it …it would be immensely appreciated!

    • Hi Dustraman From Far Away,

I’ve uploaded a new zip file that should allow you to download and listen to every track from Side D. You can find it here http://www.mediafire.com/?qb8ui6370ra5j6w. I hope that works. Let me know if anything else isn’t working–here’s much more music on the site. Thanks for stopping by!

THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH for being that incredibly kind & responsive! you don’t meet people like that too often on the net these days….

also, i’ve browsed your blog a bit & its just excellent! – myself a proud owner of a pretty large étagère full of old &/or odd vinyls, think i’ll examine all your pages thru one of these days, when i have a chance to have a chance to have a quiet cosy evening all for myself)

    Dear friend,
finding The Folk Box on the web last night was my biggest pleasant surprise (amidst a very hard period in my country, Greece). I had this record on a monophonic reel-to-reel tape (recorded from a copy lent by the Hellenic American Union in 1969!!!!), to which, of course, I have no access, since my tape recorder dosn’t work since the 80s.
Naturally, I downloaded the bunch first thing in the morning, except Side D which, according to MediaFire, shows a download error message. You are kindly requested to attempt a re-upload, if this is possible for you. You will do me a great favour. Thank you in advance.

You acted really efficiently, and I thank you sincerely. Most of all, let me thank you for your words of encouragement; I (and all of us) need them more than ever.
    Best regards
